Uptest provides a comprehensive range of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) services performed by qualified and experienced inspectors. We use industry-recognised inspection methods to detect defects, assess material integrity, and ensure compliance with applicable standards without causing damage to the tested component.
Inspection Methods
VT – Visual Testing
Visual Testing (VT) is used to identify visible surface imperfections and discontinuities using the naked eye or optical aids such as magnifiers, mirrors, or borescopes.
MT – Magnetic Particle Testing
Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) is used to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials, primarily carbon steels and ferritic steels.
PT – Penetrant Testing
Penetrant Testing (PT) is used to detect surface-breaking defects in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It is particularly effective for identifying cracks, porosity, and other surface flaws.
ET – Eddy Current Testing
Eddy Current Testing (ET) is used to detect surface and near-surface defects, including flaws beneath paint or protective coatings. It can also be used to measure electrical conductivity, material thickness, and coating thickness.
UT – Ultrasonic Testing
Ultrasonic Testing (UT) uses high-frequency sound waves to detect internal and surface defects, measure material thickness, and evaluate the integrity of welded joints and components.
RT – Radiographic Testing
Radiographic Testing (RT) uses X-rays or gamma rays to detect internal defects in welds, castings, and other components without damaging the material.
Phased Array UT (PAUT) & TOFD
Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) and Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) are advanced ultrasonic inspection techniques that provide highly accurate detection, sizing, and characterisation of internal and surface-breaking defects. These methods can often be used as an alternative to Radiographic Testing (RT), offering detailed inspection results without the use of ionising radiation.
